Formula Solutions Demo TrueType Font Thank you for taking the time to evaluate the Formula Solutions Demo TrueType which contains sample logos, symbols and a signature. The font has been designed around the requirements of a fictional company, namely Formula Widgets. The font contains the company’s main corporate logo, a brand logo, various symbols and a signature. Installation The TrueType font is installed in the same way as any other TrueType font. In Windows the font is added via the Fonts applet in Control Panel and on the Macintosh the font can simply be dropped onto the System folder. For a detailed description regarding installation please see the Support section of the Formula Solutions web site at www.formula.co.uk. Usage Each logo, symbol or signature in the TrueType font has been associated with one or more characters. For instance the recycled symbol is associated with the character ‘G’ and the signature with the character ‘R’. To use any of the items in the TrueType font, first select the ‘Formula Solutions V1’ font, from your applications font menu, then select the required font size and then type the characters associated the item that you want to use. A full list of the items contained in the TrueType font is shown below: Formula Widgets Logo – Characters ‘abc’ The logo consists of a symbol with ‘Formula Widgets Plc’ text to the right. The symbol is associated with the character ‘a’ and the text with the characters ‘bc’. As the symbol and text are separate they can be coloured independently. Try using the logo at 36 point with the character ‘a’ set to a colour or to a shade of grey with the characters ‘bc’ set to black. Crown Brand Logo – Characters ‘d’ and ‘ef’ The Crown brand logo consists of a detailed crown placed above the text ‘Crown’. The font contains two versions of the logo. The first uses the character ‘d’ and is for use in one colour. The second version uses the characters ‘ef’ and is designed so that the crown can be set as a different colour to the text. This is known as the colourable version. To use the colourable version type the characters ‘ef’. This will display the complete logo. The character ‘e’ is associated with the text and the character ‘f’ is associated with the crown. Recycled Symbol – Character ‘g’ The recycled symbol is associated with the character ‘g’. The No Smoking symbol – Characters ‘hi’ The No Smoking symbol has been designed so that the circle and diagonal line can be set as a different colour to the cigarette. The character ‘h’ is associated with the circle and line and the character ‘i’ is associated with the cigarette. Therefore typing ‘hi’ with the character ‘h’ set to red and the character ‘i’ set to black will result in the familiar looking No Smoking symbol. Radiation Symbol – Characters ‘j’ and ‘kl’ This symbol contains two versions. The first can be accessed using the character ‘j’. This is suitable as a single colour image with the symbol part being transparent. Therefore if it was used on a coloured background in a presentation the coloured background would show through. The second version uses the characters ‘kl’ and is a colourable version of the symbol. The character ‘k’ creates the background and the character ‘l’ the symbol. Therefore typing ‘kl’ with the character ‘k’ set to blue and the character ‘l’ set to yellow, will produce a yellow symbol on a blue background. We often produce both a single colour and a multi-colour version of a logo in the same font. This allows the single colour version to be used on plain backgrounds such as plain paper printing and the multi-colour version to be used on coloured backgrounds such as in presentations. Made in Great Britain – Characters ‘mn’ The characters ‘mn’ produce an outline map of Great Britain with the text ‘Made in Great Britain’ to the right. The map is associated with the character ‘m’ and can be set as a different colour to the text. Union Flag – Characters ‘opq’ The Union flag can be accessed by typing ‘opq’. The colour order is blue, white and red. Therefore typing ‘opq’ with the character ‘o’ set to blue, the character ‘p’ set to white and the character ‘q’ set to red will produce the correctly coloured flag. Signature – Characters ‘r’ The signature is accessed using the character ‘r’. In a signature font you could have your full formal signature, an informal signature as well as other derivatives such as just first name. Try using the signature at 36 point in blue. Colouring a logo The techniques used to colour a TrueType logo can vary between applications. We have produced an article summarising some of the common techniques and this can be found in the support section of our web site at www.formula.co.uk.
